A very handsome George III carved mahogany Sheraton-period open armchair, circa 1795.
This wonderful chair features a top rail carved with swags above three pierced splats and downswept arms with acanthus-carved hand grips and supports. The cane seat has a bowfront seat rail flanked by carved flowerheads and is supplied with a buttoned blue velvet removable squab cushion. On square tapering legs decorated with flowerbells and finished with spade feet.
Overall condition is very good. The cane seat is in solid condition, as is the chair frame. We have noted a small historic repair to the left-hand arm and another to the rear of the back on the right-hand side. Please see images for details.
