A charming example of a mid-19th-century Thames valley region low-back, single-bow Windsor chair in yew and elm. Circa 1845 - 1880.
With a scribe line to the back bow and seat edge, ring-turned underarm supports, single ring and concave turned legs with a lower ring joined by an H-form elliptical stretcher. Additionally, the seat has a rear wedge which supports two spindles that connect in to the top of the bow. Stamped 'HH' to the rear of the seat.
Overall condition is solid with no loose joints. Nice rich colour and overall patina with a wonderfully worn seat. Note: Seat height is 40 cm, which would suit someone shorter in the leg.
