A wonderful Georgian low-back Windsor chair in yew & elm, with a saddle seat and crinoline stretcher.  The distinctive design detail of shaped and flattened underarm supports point towards this chair being by William Wheatland of Retford in North Nottinghamshire. Later retailers stamp to the underside of the seat 'Spillman & Co. St. Martin's Lane, London W.C.2.' 
 
In lovely worn condition with a deep rich patina.  Some light historic evidence of worm to the seat front, but otherwise solid with no loose joints.
